It’s homecoming week for students at Tulsa’s McLain High School, and to kickoff the Friday night football game, teachers created a virtual pep rally.

"Right here, right now for our first virtual pep assembly. So get excited. it's amazing," said Renee Rabovsky, McLain High School Principal.

Rabovsky said students may not be in the classrooms, but there is plenty of school spirit.

"The band is a big part of our pep rallies. Usually they do a snake around the building so we all enter together. So it was cool to see the video of the previous TMC marching soul groups," said Claire Lewis.

Lewis is the student council sponsor at McLain High School and said the homecoming royal court was also announced during the virtual pep rally.

"So many changes, especially for our seniors who have waited to be Mr. and Miss. Titian attendant," Lewis said. "So, we wanted to make it really special for them and still have this moment."

Lewis said almost 200 students and teachers participated in the pep rally. She said the pep rally is not only showcasing football players and cheerleaders, it's also a way for teacher to get students involved even if it's through a screen.

"The overall goal of celebrating students was definitely the same," Lewis said. "We just had to adapt and use this new format just based on what's going on. So it was really exciting and really fun."
