A Tulsa hair stylist is doing something good by giving free haircuts to people who have been struggling throughout the pandemic.
It's something good that she’s done for years for the people she feels need it most.
Nahzi Soleymani is a woman making a name for herself in her work ethic, her talents and her kindness. Near the corner of 91st and Sheridan is a place Soleymani spends a lot of time. She has been doing hair for 19 years now and loves what she does.
"I graduated college with a Clinical Psychology degree and I worked with my degree for a couple of years, but I always wanted to do hair," Soleymani said.
When Soleymani started her own business, she found ways to do more for clients who were struggling. Since the pandemic began, that struggle has often been financial so she has given some haircuts for free.
"I never thought it was a big deal because that is the smallest thing I can do for my people," Soleymani said. "I am giving them love and great hair and that is all I can do so why not."
Soleymani knows what it's like to go through hard times. She moved to Oklahoma from Iran in 2011 as a single mom without a dollar in her pocket and without knowing any English.
"I wanted to make a better life for my kids, I have two lovely daughters. They are everything to me and I wanted to make the best for them," Soleymani said. "For two years and a half, I worked seven days a week, I didn't even take one day off because I had to build, I had to start over. There was no time to feel like, 'am I tired.'"
In a matter of years, she learned English by listening to people speak in the restaurant where she worked. She later was named employee of the month 11 times at another job.
"I always tell my kids dream hard, but work harder. Nothing is impossible," Soleymani said.
Soleymani now has started her own business and bought a home for her family.
"I feel like I have a lot of power that I didn't know that I had before," Soleymani said. "At the end of the day, I am so happy. I just love what I do."
