Tulsa city officials have said that the process of removing the “Black Lives Matter” mural on Greenwood Avenue will soon begin as crews start a new street project.

The process is expected to begin early on Monday morning and according to city officials, a crew will be mobilizing around 7 a.m. to get started.

The construction crew will begin an overlay project that will involve removing the top surface of the road, doing patchwork underneath and overlaying the surface with asphalt.

The completion of the project will mean that the “Black Lives Matter” mural will be removed, something that Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum insisted on over the summer due to a permit never being issued to allow it in the first place.

City leaders spent several weeks discussing the removal at council meetings over the summer.

According to city officials, this street project should last about a week.
