The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled a Tulsa man's murder conviction and life sentence should be vacated, given that he is a Cherokee citizen and the murder happened on tribal land.

In 2018, a jury convicted Gary Wilson of murder for the 2016 death of Terrel Smith. Investigators say Wilson and two other men lured Smith to a home near 61st Street North and MLK and shot him.

The Supreme Court said in light of the recent ruling on tribal land jurisdiction, Wilson's case should be reconsidered.

Department of corrections records show Wilson is still in prison.
