The Tulsa Public Schools Board of Education met Tuesday night to discuss the superintendent’s plan to return to in-person learning.
Board members heard from Dr. Bruce Dart and other medical professionals ahead of their vote Tuesday night.
Dr. Dart said they’ve seen about 500 positive COVID-19 cases in Tulsa County schools since mid-August. He said most of these cases are in students, but said the number is not as high as he thought it would be by now.
Superintendent Dr. Deborah Gist recommended a phased return for students to head back to class in mid to late November.

Dr. Gist’s proposed approach includes two days of in-person learning and three days of learning from home. The goal is to have all students back in the classroom by November 30 if the district deems it safe to go back.
