As winter approaches in Oklahoma, nature conservationists are preparing more than 2,500 bison for their annual checkups at the Tall Grass Prairie in Pawhuska.

The herds at the prairie were rounded up from more than 23,000 acres on Sunday so staff and wranglers could give each bison their yearly weigh-in and vaccinations.

According to the wranglers, 582 bison were sold to meat producers this year to keep the size of the herd at a manageable number.
