Tulsa County voters hand delivered their absentee ballots Monday to the Tulsa County Election Board Office. People had different reasons to vote absentee, but they stood in line with the same goal, to get in the election office and out as quickly as possible.
“I was working out-of-town at the time and applied for my absentee ballot and made it back in time to do my vote; so, I'm going to fill it out and drop it off down here,” said Derrick Chatman.
Tulsa County Election Secretary Gwen Freeman said 74,445 people requested an absentee ballot. The requests were up from 21,000 absentee requests they received in the 2016 presidential election.
"It's one thing to request them it's another thing to have to process them when they come in. You can see a lot of people lined up here at the election board today they're wanting to turn their absentee ballots in. We're getting them in by mail every single day,” said Freeman.
She said they expect 60,000 of those requested absentee ballots to be hand delivered to the election office by the state law deadline, which is 5pm November 2nd.
"If you're going to hand deliver it then it cannot be accepted tomorrow. Once tomorrow rolls around, the only place you can go is your individual precincts you cannot come here to hand your absentee ballot in," said Freeman.
People who stood in line to drop off their ballots said the line moved quickly.
"It's harder to find a parking spot than anything; but everything seems to be moving fast,” said Chatman.
If you mailed in your ballot, it must arrive at the election board office by 7 p.m. November 3rd.
