According to mental health experts, anxiety and stress surrounding the 2020 Presidential election seem to be common among voters.

As voters wait for the results to start coming in, mental health experts suggest that it is best to focus on situations in your life that you can control and think of ways to manage the stress. Such activities could include getting some exercise on election day or unplugging and spending time with your family and friends.

Mark Davis, with the Mental Health Association, said it is best to manage your expectations of what will happen in the election, whether it is about who you want to win or stressing about when we will know the final results.

Davis said, “When you say ‘I want this specific outcome,' you set yourself up for some emotional turmoil and a lot of psychological unrest but keep your expectations open and keep them malleable."

Davis added that there is no shame in seeking professional help or reaching out to someone to talk through concerns.
