An Asian elephant, a giraffe and a white rhino all have one thing in common – they are getting acquainted with their new home at the Tulsa Zoo.
As American presidential history is being made on Tuesday, amidst a pandemic, three new animals at the Tulsa Zoo are just working on settling in.
Booper is a 48-year-old Asian Elephant who eats 150 pounds of food a day. Booper is new at the zoo so she will stay in an area by herself until zookeepers introduce her to the new herd.
Sally, the 14-year-old white rhino, is also new and will go through the same process until she’s with her herd.
"There are places in the world beyond Oklahoma that have incredible wildlife and I know that not everybody is going to have the chance to be able to see them or be able to make that connection to them and we were kind of hoping that here we can give them a little glimpse into those worlds,” said Jordan
Booper and Sally are not with their new herds yet. They are in an area of their own while they get used to their new homes.
"It is a bit like going to a new school, you got to take things slow at first before you have sleepovers," said Jordan Piha with the Tulsa Zoo.
Zoe, the 18-month-old giraffe, is already with her new friends.
"She has been very calm since the day she stepped off the trailer," said Jordan.
