Tulsa Co. Sergeant Shares Love Of Batman To Create Space Of Joy For Others

A sergeant at the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office uses his Batman obsession to bring a little joy into people’s day.

His office is full of memorabilia and collectibles of the caped crusader, and people of all ages love to stop by and see his collection.

Welcome, to the Batcave.

"I think everybody loves Batman, I mean there is not too many people that don't," said TCSO Sgt. Randy Chapman.

This cave isn't hidden behind a bookshelf like in the 1960s TV series; it is right in the middle of the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office in Sgt Randy Chapman's office.

"Every day I come in here and look around and I am like a big, grown, kid. It is like I never grew up," said Sgt Chapman.

He has worked with TCSO for more than two decades. He does a little bit of everything, but he works a lot with kids.

"Their parents come in here to get fingerprints or they come in here to get a handgun license and they bring the kids in here," said Chapman.

It is obvious why the kids love this spot, there is stuff in here you just won't see anywhere else. It isn't just kids that stop by, his coworkers are big fans too.

"He stood for what was right, justice, or people who were not so fortunate or people who were in trouble- you know everybody needs a hero. Everybody needs a hero," said Chapman.

Most of these pieces are gifts from friends, family members, even DOC prisoners

"If you are good to people, I think, people will be good back to you," said Chapman.

In all the seriousness of life, there might just be a little space for all of us, to be a kid.

"This world is sad enough as it is,” Chapman said. “If I can bring a little smile to someone's life just once a day, then my life is complete.”
