A Sand Springs couple said their pet llama was shot and killed overnight and they want the person responsible to be held accountable.

They are offering a reward to anyone who may have information.

Ken and Tracie Taylor said their llama Ranger was loved by everyone in the neighborhood. They called this a senseless act and they want to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else.

"Here he was protecting all of the other animals from the predators and someone who had nothing to gain from killing him just shot an innocent animal," Tracie said.

Ken and Tracie said they rescued their llama Ranger five years ago. They said he kept their other animals safe from coyotes and everyone adored Ranger.

"I think he just became a pet for the neighborhood and this area out here," Ken said.

On Thursday, they said they learned something horrible had happened. Ken said his neighbor called saying Ranger was laying down, with the other animals surrounding him.

"When Ranger lays down, he always has his head up, he never just lays down flat on the ground, so we knew something was up," Ken said.

Ken said he found a bullet behind Ranger's left shoulder and his neighbors told him they heard gunshots in the middle of the night.

He said everyone in the area is upset with the loss, including Ranger's best friend, their bull named Nick.

"Nick walked over to him and looked at him and bellowed at him and just kind of backed up so I can tell he's missing him already," Ken said.

Ken and Tracie now want answers.

They are offering a $1,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest and prosecution. They said it's to make sure no one else ever has to go through this.

"We want to make sure it doesn't happen to somebody else and you can't get by with it,” Ken said.

If you have any information, call the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.
