The Tulsa City Council will consider an ordinance Tuesday to further restrict large gatherings and create a penalty for restaurant and bar owners who violate emergency rules passed to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new ordinance calls for Health Department approval of any gathering of 150 or more people and will add language to the ordinances on face coverings, hours, separation of customers, and reduced occupancy.

The full text of the proposed changes to the existing emergency ordinance has not been published yet on the Council website, but the terms will be debated and possibly altered during the special meeting Tuesday at 5:30 pm. The meeting is being held in-person and online. The new ordinance could take effect immediately, under the rules of the council, and with the Mayor's approval.

The Council will also consider a resolution "urging the Tulsa City-County Health Department to vigorously enforce reasonable and necessary ordinances and executive orders related to face covering, separation distances, sanitation, hours of operation and other provisions" against businesses inside the City limits.

Mayor Bynum announced last week he intended to take the oath of office for a second term through a virtual meeting. The Council will discuss plans for the inauguration set for December 7th.
