The Skiatook First United Methodist Church is using its ministry to help teachers who may be having a tough time in the classroom because of challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Church leaders formed the "Around the Table" ministry after they said they were looking for the best way to help the community and one volunteer mentioned how a number of teachers are currently struggling due to the pandemic.
According to Reverend Sarah Thornhill, the church is planning virtual networking opportunities where teachers can talk about the pressures of teaching during the pandemic.
“Their job is stressful in normal times and this has just added a whole other layer of how they serve their kids and love their kids and adjust on the fly to everything," said Thornhill.
Thornhill added that they also want to help young families who may be having a tough time dealing with distance learning.
