For the first time in more than a year, a Boeing 737 Max plane made a public demonstration flight, landing in Tulsa Wednesday morning.

American Airlines is reassuring the public the planes are safe after being grounded for nearly two years after two fatal crashes. The flight, which came from Dallas, carried both reporters and American Airlines employees.

Over the next few weeks, American Airlines will do more of these flights to reassure both customers and employees. Two weeks ago, the FAA cleared the Max to return to service after months of research, training, and a recertification process. This all comes after two fatal crashes involving the 737 Max overseas where a new automated flight control pushed the airplane nose down.

Software issues were fixed to correct that and now American Airlines is scheduled to be the first airline to use the plane commercially starting with flights from Miami to New York later this month. American says it will be working on these planes here in Tulsa over the next few weeks to prepare to return them to service.
