The showdown that we were all looking forward to won't take place due to COVID-19, but Tulsa now has an extra week to get set for #8 Cincinnati.
This time around it will be for a conference title.
The Golden Hurricane have had eight games affected by the pandemic this year and this is the second regular season game against Cincinnati that has gone by the wayside.
Head Coach Philip Montgomery is using the extra week to get more intel on the Bearcats, a team that will have been away from competitions for four weeks next Saturday.
"We’re going to try and take every advantage that we can get, they haven't given us many of them so we are going to try and get every advantage we can get,” Montgomery said.
Tulsa has just one hiccup on the road this season, that was the season opener in Stillwater. The “road warrior” mentality is something they are embracing ahead of the title game.
"I think our guys understand that, at the first of the year if we said hey we are going to get an opportunity to go play for a championship but we are going to have to go to Cincinnati to do that, they would have said let’s roll,” Montgomery said.
Coach Montgomery understands there is no wiggle room to reschedule this game a third time with the bowl calendar slated to begin the same day as the AAC championship.
"I would venture it would have to be played pretty quick in the matter of a couple of days,” Montgomery said. “You’re not going to get another week out of that."
