Here are six things to know before you set your alarm for Friday, the first day of 2021.
.CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY: The Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission and the Tulsa YWCA will host an event for the centennial anniversary of the race massacre at John Hope Franklin Park. Actress Alfre Woodard and Oklahoma senator James Lankford will speak at the live-streamed event starting at 3 p.m.
.HEADS UP: If your trash is normally collected on Fridays, there will be no service in Tulsa due to the holiday. Trash will be collected on Sunday instead.
.MESSAGE OF PEACE: Pope Francis will give his World Day of Peace message Friday from Saint Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City. He will preside over a mass and offer prayers.
.GET OUTSIDE: Start the new year outdoors with a First Day Hike. It’s part of a nationwide initiative to encourage people to be active outdoors.
.KICK OFF: The college football playoffs kick off Friday. #1 Alabama takes on #4 Notre Dame in the Rose Bowl, which will be played in Texas this year, at 3 p.m. #2 Clemson faces #3 Ohio State in the Sugar Bowl at 7 p.m.
.FRESH START: Many places around the world have already celebrated the end of 2020, which has been a tough year for most of us. Let’s all try and start off the new year right.
