A winter weather advisory remains for a few counties across far northeastern/eastern OK and northwestern Arkansas until 9 a.m. this morning. Snow accumulation between one and two inches will be possible in a few spots within the advisory areas. Light snow will remain possible across other areas of northeastern OK pre-dawn with no major impacts. A dusting will remain possible across part of Tulsa early this morning. The Tulsa metro is currently not included in any advisories. Light sprinkles and showers will be possible south of I-40 before quickly ending.

Winter Advisories

Cold weather remains today and unfortunately, mostly cloudy skies for most of the area. We’ll stay in the 30s under the clouds. Some spots west and south many see a little sunshine later this afternoon with highs in the lower 40s. We’ll remain cold Thursday morning, lower-20s for morning temperatures before climbing into the 40s with partly cloudy skies and a return of south winds near 10 mph. Another strong storm system moves into the area late Friday night and Saturday morning with rain and some thunder. This system will quickly exit the area leaving Saturday midday, yet windy will remain. Sunday features lows in the 30s and highs in the 50s with mild weather expected early next week before another strong storm system nears the state.

Temps & Rain Chances

A strong upper-level system is moving across central Kansas this morning and is producing some light snow in a few spots. Some spots near and east of the metro may experience a minor dusting with locations across part of the travel advisory experiencing some 1-to-2-inch snow along the spine of the Boston Mountains. This system will quickly exit the area early this morning with cold-weather remaining for the day.

As the next strong upper-level low dives across the southwest, surface pressure will fall along the Rockies Thursday and begin influencing our weather Friday with gusty southwest winds from 15 to 25 mph. A mid-level ridge of high pressure will temporarily bring us relatively mild temps with highs Friday nearing 60 along with the breezy weather. Showers and some thunder will be likely late Friday night into Saturday morning as the surface low-pressure area ejects across southern Kansas and drags a cold front across the state. Ample amounts of deep-layer shear will be present but significant low-level moisture should be confined to our south. Surface instability will remain very low. We’re not expecting any severe weather threats with the Saturday morning system. By midday, the strong low will be exiting and gusty west to northwest winds will arrive with clearing skies and breezy conditions late Saturday afternoon.
