Bartlesville Police said Monday they responded to at least 13 wrecks in the city since the winter blast began, which left slick spots throughout the city.
Throughout Washington County, first responders reported more than 20 wrecks, including 13 in Bartlesville, four in Dewey, and 10 others across the county. Officers said of all the wrecks, two had reported injuries, and those people are expected to be OK
Near Ramona, just east of Highway 75 at the intersection of 3500 and 4000 roads, a semi-truck slipped off an icy road and rolled over. The driver was alert and talking, but an ambulance picked him up from the scene. An eyewitness said her husband helped rescue the driver, by using a tool they had with them to break through the windshield and help the driver out.
Kary Cox is the Emergency Management Director for the City of Bartlesville and Washington County. Monday he met with county commissioners along with city and county crews, to prepare for the next few days.
Cox urged people to stay inside unless they must go out and described his drive into work Monday.
"It was extremely treacherous. We drive four-wheel-drive vehicles, very heavy vehicles. And even those, we felt the roadways were very, very slick and it was difficult to control,” Cox said.
Cox said Monday he had not heard of any power outages throughout the county.
