Tulsa city workers are still putting salt and sand down to break up the icy patches on the city's streets.
Crews said it's still important for people to go slow while out on the roads.
The city said drivers should notice an improvement to the roads compared to earlier in the week, but the city's streets are still slick, even with the treatment.
“It’s hard to tell what’s black ice and what’s wet driving in. I’ve been driving in in the dark and you know when you’re driving on those roads you see it and you never know what’s black ice and what’s not, so you have to just always assume that it is and just drive carefully when you’re going on that," said Terry Ball.
Terry Ball with Tulsa's street and water department said thousands of pounds of salt and sand are being spread out on the roads by crews working 24-hour shifts. He said drivers may see ramp closures or exit lanes temporarily closed while crews treat problem areas.
“We haven’t really had a lot of this type of weather in awhile, so some of our salt supplies have been out there and are a little older. So, it’s just a matter of breaking it up and getting it loaded into the trucks. It’s not hindering our ability to go out and treat the roads. We’re just having to do an extra step on getting the material ready to load it to the trucks," said Ball.
Ball said crews are taking this weather event one day at a time, but said they are preparing equipment for a possible next round of snow and maybe more ice this weekend.
