A close call and a warning from a Bixby dad after his parked truck started sliding down the driveway as he helped his daughter out of the back seat.
In home security video that Tyler Montgomery shared with News On 6 you can see his truck parked in the driveway as his four-year-old son carefully walked up the slick driveway.
Montgomery said he had even put the parking brake on as an extra precaution, but that was no match for the icy driveway.
In the video, Montgomery’s head can be seen on the other side of the back passenger door where he is helping his seven-year-old daughter get out of the truck.
He said his daughter had one foot on the step rail and the other mid-air when the truck started moving.
As a quick-thinking former firefighter, Montgomery stayed calm and hollered for his daughter to get back in. Then he blocked the door with his body to keep her from falling out.
The ending is a good one, everyone was fine and no cars were driving down the street at the time, but Montgomery said it was definitely a wake-up call that he wanted to share with others.
“I just want people to realize the danger of road conditions during this weather continue, even after you get off the main roads. My driveway was the least of my concerns until today,” said Montgomery.
Montgomery said his son added a little levity to the situation as he watched and yelled "that's cool" the whole time.
