Washington County Emergency Management said the big focus all day has been getting as much snow off the roads as possible, then letting the solar heating from the sun, melt the rest.
Kary Cox, the Washington County Emergency Manager said they’ve been very busy for about a week now.
They’ve been in charge of coordinating all the roads crews for the city, county and state and helping with the two warming centers in town. So far, they say everything has gone well. They said there have been very few minor accidents, and a couple cars in the ditch.
They said everyone has done a great job of staying home if they don’t need to go anywhere. This has helped allow snowplows to do their job, and not have to deal with much traffic.
“Once the sun comes out and starts hitting off the surfaces, especially surfaces like asphalt, even concrete roads. We get some of that solar heating on that surface and that speeds up the melting and thawing process,” said Cox.
