A youth emergency shelter in McAlester is cleaning up after frozen water pipes burst, causing major damage.

Sprinkler lines at the Youth Emergency Shelter in McAlester froze up and burst. The ceilings in two rooms have collapsed, they have flood damage, pipe damage, furniture and carpets have been ruined.

The Youth Emergency Shelter provides a home for kids while they wait for foster homes.

Thankfully, the building has two levels. The kids area is OK, they are happy and warm, but their outreach area is in rough shape. The shelter is a nonprofit, they do all they can for the kids who come through their home but they also serve adults in need by connecting them with resources like housing. It is this area that has been damaged.

Most of the nonprofit’s big donors have gone out of business due to the pandemic, so if you can help financially please call their office at 918-423-8845
