The City of Collinsville said a booming housing market is leading to more interest in commercial development.

A new shopping complex is the first of more future developments.

The Shoppes at Cooper Ranch was announced this week as a new development near the intersection of Highway 20 and Highway 75. It will feature opportunities including restaurants and retail.

City Planner Jessi Stringer told News On 6 the big commercial development comes at a time when the city is seeing permits for houses double in recent years. She said future projects are in the works but will be announced later.

Stringer said since more people are calling Collinsville home, it is important for them to bring new opportunities to the area. Her vision also includes keeping the downtown area historic while attracting new and local businesses.

“I truly believe that the people of Collinsville will be so proud and happy to be in this wholesome city owned by locals, ran by locals and grown by locals,” said Stringer.

Stringer said meetings are being planned for members of the community to get involved in the discussion for future developments. Dates for those meetings are still being finalized.
