The world seemed to stop turning when a new, deadly virus reached Oklahoma one year ago, causing dozens of businesses to close their doors and trigger unprecedented testing and contact tracing efforts statewide.

As death totals climbed to more than 340 Oklahomans in the first three months, state leaders called for a new level of personal responsibility in the fight against COVID-19.

Hospitals in Green Country and across the U.S. were operating at capacity heading into the holiday season, with cases setting a new record high each day.

Thousands of Oklahomans continue to become vaccinated each week, state leaders have renewed hope for herd immunity, and a return to normalcy.
