A local racing legend has been reunited with his prized trophy.
Jack Howerton’s trailer was full of his belongings when it was stolen a couple weeks ago, including his most prized possession: a racing trophy.

A group of racing fans worked together to track the trophy down and brought it back to him Monday night. Howerton said he’s thrilled to have his trophy back, but the people who helped him will have a special place in his heart forever.
“It’s not really more meaningful than the guys who found it for me. I didn’t even know them until then,” Howerton said.
Howerton has had this trophy since 1974, when he beat Mario Andretti and other famous racers in Indianapolis.
