Governor Kevin Stitt gave an update as Oklahoma began Phase 4 for the COVID-19 vaccine on Monday.
In Phase 4 of the state’s vaccination plan, all Oklahomans 16-year-old and older are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Governor Stitt thanked the state health departments and workers that helped make the vaccine rollout a success thus far and said that nearly 2 million vaccines have already been distributed. Stitt also announced that he will be receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine Monday afternoon.
"We are going to get our summers back, Oklahoma. The light at the end of the tunnel has never been brighter," said Stitt.
Oklahoma joins Texas and Missippi as one of the first states to open vaccine appointments to the general public.
“This is an incredible milestone in our state’s vaccine rollout, and it’s thanks to the collaboration of people and organizations across the state,” said State Commissioner of Health Dr. Lance Frye. “We’re very grateful to the public health staff, county health departments, partners, and volunteers who made this unprecedented public health response possible.”
Deputy OSDH Commissioner Keith Reed said that the total number of vaccines administered in Oklahoma is 1,888,004 as of Monday including state and federal allocations.
"We have 1,201,827 Oklahomans who have received at least one dose which equals just over 30% of our state's population," said Reed.
