The Biden administration has extended the eviction moratorium for another three months, keeping millions of families in their homes and off the streets. The current eviction moratorium was set to expire on March 31 but now has been extended through June 30.

The initiative has applied to about 20 million people impacted financially by the pandemic over the past year, and the National Housing Law Project said millions still need help because the pandemic is still very much ongoing.

The CDC's order protects renters making less than $99,000 a year that would likely become homeless if evicted. These benefits have to be applied for, they are not automatically applied to every renter struggling.

Locally in Tulsa, Restore Hope Ministries has been given $20 million in relief funds to distribute to help with rent and utility assistance through either the end of the year or when their funds run out. This program not only pays current rent, but it can also help with past due rent and in some cases, even rent for three months in advance.

Applicants have to live in the City of Tulsa or Tulsa County and be at least 18 years old. Household income has to be at or below 80% of the area's median income.

Applicants will have to prove that they have been experiencing difficulty with housing.

Lastly, applicants will have to prove that their income has been impacted by COVID-19 or that they qualified for unemployment benefits since March 13 of 2020.

Keep in mind, these benefits both on the federal and local level are open to most anyone in need that has been impacted financially by the pandemic, but they do have to be applied for and the application has to be approved.
