Openings statements for the prosecution and defense are set to begin on Tuesday morning in the trial of Shannon Kepler, the former Tulsa Police officer accused of killing his daughter's boyfriend in 2014.

Both Shannon Kepler's attorney and prosecutors admitted getting a jury would be tricky because the case has garnered significant media attention and because Kepler has already had four trials.

A third of the nearly 60 potential jurors raised their hands when asked if they knew about the case.

Kepler, a Native American, has been out of prison since March after he was released due to the Supreme Court's ruling on tribal jurisdiction.

Kepler was serving 15 years in prison after being convicted of manslaughter in the shooting death of Jeremy Lake in 2014.

Kepler appealed the conviction and won hence his release.

The judge told the jurors that he expects the case to take about five days.

Prosecutors listed 36 witnesses they plan to call to the stand, while Kepler's attorney listed 14.
