Watch: Rare Grey Whale Sighting In The Bay Of Naples

A grey whale sighting in the bay of Naples on Sunday (April 18) was described by local media as an "exceptional event", as the north-eastern Pacific species rarely visits the Mediterranean waters.

The last sighting of the whale in the Mediterranean sea before was in 2010 between Israel and Spain.

Regional Marine authorities' goal is to accompany the animal to the open sea to keep it from beaching.

Local sailors were also alerted to avoid stressing the animal, most likely lost and badly nourished.
