A Tulsa organization is providing more details about the new data just released by the U.S. Census. The Community Service Council is using that information to chart trends and help local governments.
The new data shows that Oklahoma grew by 5.5 percent in the past decade.
This week, the U.S. Census Bureau released their preliminary data that shows about 331 million people now live in the United States, which is a 7.4 percent increase from the previous decade.
That increase, however, is the slowest growth America has seen since the Great Depression.
The Census Bureau found that Oklahoma gained about 200,000 residents in the past decade, which puts the state's population just shy of four million people. Oklahoma did not lose or gain any Congressional seats.
This data is already a big help for the Community Service Council, is a research and planning organization in Tulsa.
The Council's Director of Innovative Data and Research Melanie Poulter said they will organize this information and share it in a way to help businesses, local governments and organizations.
"So, people can use that information in their planning efforts, in their strategic planning for future building of infrastructure, schools, hospitals that kind of thing," said Poulter.
Specific demographic information will be released in September and a full report will be released at the end of the year.
