Pittsburg County Emergency Management says they are lucky to have minimal damage after severe storms rolled through Monday evening.

Community members tell us the high winds and heavy rains made this storm a scary one to watch but they feel fortunate as the sun came out and they looked around there wasn’t much damage.

Trinity Humbles said he was sitting on her porch watching the storm when she looked up and saw rotation in the clouds, so she grabbed her phone and started filming. She said she grabbed her son and ran to the bathroom to take cover until the storm had passed.

“I really didn’t have a lot of thoughts other than am I going to make it, is my family going to be safe, are the people in my neighborhood going to be safe, that’s all I was feeling in that moment it was really horrific,” Humbles said.

Other parts of Pittsburg County had tree damage that fell on the roads and some larger trees took down some power lines, knocking out the power for a couple of hours.

Pittsburg County Emergency Management Director Kevin Enloe said flooding is their biggest issue since some areas had several feet of water on them, causing a few people to need rescuing and roads to be closed.

“We’ve had a lot of flooding this year, we want to promote turn around don’t drown,” Enloe said. “In the event last night during the severe weather a lot of our calls were related to vehicles driving into floodwaters.”

He says if you did have any damage on your property you should call the Emergency Management offices to file a report a soon as possible.
