The Animal Rescue Foundation of Tulsa is making repairs after an attempted break-in at the adoption center.

Volunteers at Animal Rescue Foundation say it's unsettling someone would do this and the money to repair the damage could be spent helping animals in need.

"Our ring camera alerted us that there was something going on in the backyard," said ARF Board Vice President Christine Po.

Po said a man tried to push in the doors and ending up breaking the lock but couldn't get into the building. He smashed windows and punched a hole in the side of the storage shed.

"Everything is very expensive to repair, it's heavy duty glass, the lock has to be ordered, and it's very expensive, so he's costing us money," Po said.

Po said the non-profit needs all the donations and funds they have to go to the animals they take care of, and not to repair the vandalism.

She said there is nothing of value inside the building, so she questions why he would even want in.

"There's nothing at all he'd find here, we have dog food, we have cat food, we have puppy pads, we have crates, this is an adoption center, but we don't keep animals here at night so thankfully there weren't animals here," she said.

Po said this has never happened in the 25-year history of the nonprofit. She said it's unsettling someone would harm a place that takes care of animals.

"We do everything we can to help our animals, so to have someone attack us out of anyone is just really disheartening," Po said.

Tulsa Police are investigating. If you'd like to donate to the Animal Rescue Foundation of Tulsa, visit their Facebook page here or their website here
