A pattern change is underway and will bring more storm chances across the state for the next several days that may continue through next week.
Northwest flow aloft this morning will allow a small complex of storms, currently across part of Kansas to move southeast and attempt to enter portions of southeastern Kansas and northeastern OK later today. This activity is not expected to become severe, but some scattered showers or storms will be possible later today around the metro northward, along the highway 412 region. Another area of scattered storms may develop across northwestern OK later this morning and move eastward at midday. The chance for the metro remains near 20%, with higher chances slightly north.
Temps this morning in the 50s will rebound back into the mid or upper 70s with a sun-cloud mix and southeast winds near 15 to 25 mph. Most of our Friday evening plans are good to go from a weather perspective, but additional storms will develop across western OK later tonight and move mostly eastward during the early Saturday morning hours. A few of these storms may become strong, but organized severe storms are not expected. Data this morning also suggests some of this activity may linger through midday to early afternoon before dissipating. This may leave a residual boundary across far northern OK that may activate with additional storms late Saturday evening into early Sunday morning. Scattered storms are also possible, even likely for Sunday with highs in the mid to upper 70s.
The main pattern Sunday through almost all of next week will center upon a weak southwest upper air flow, abundant low-level moisture, and the presence of a weak surface boundary positioned across part of northeastern OK or southern Kansas. Numerous scattered storms will be likely, a few strong to severe, and some flooding issues will become likely as the week progresses. Most temps will start in the 60s for lows and reach afternoon highs in the upper 70s near 80.
Thanks for reading the Friday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
