Another active pattern will remain this entire week with more periods of rain and storms, including the threat of strong to severe storms by midweek into early this weekend. A weak cold front should also near the state later this week and could become a focus for both severe storms and heavy rainfall threats.
Our short-term issues concern additional patchy fog in valleys early this morning before showers begin flaring up with more tropical moisture positioned near our immediate area. Most of this shower activity later today will be light. Limited instability should keep the threat of lightning minimal. Temps will start in the upper 60s for most locations and reach the mid or upper 70s across northeastern OK with clouds and southeast winds near 10 to 20 mph. A few spots across far southeastern OK into western Arkansas may reach the lower 80s again today. Additional showers and some thunder will be possible Tuesday with highs nearing 80.
Tuesday night into Wednesday, storms are likely to develop across the central plains and may drop southeast near northern OK early Wednesday morning before diminishing. This period of Wednesday through the end of the week will bring additional storm chances, including some severe threats across northeastern OK.
By midweek, the upper air pattern will allow stronger winds aloft to finally reach part of northern OK and southern Kansas. Several disturbances will approach in the flow and thunderstorms will become more numerous, especially Thursday along a slowly southward moving cold front entering northwestern OK. If the timing holds, storms will develop, becoming strong to severe storms moving southeast Thursday evening into early Friday. We may also see another repeat Friday night into early Saturday near or west of the metro. The eventual outcome of this front holds the key to our weekend weather. The Memorial Holiday Weekend currently supports a slight chance for a few storms with lows in the lower to mid-60s and highs in the lower 80s.
Thanks for reading the Monday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
