Professional golf is back in Tulsa as the 2021 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship takes place this week at Southern Hills. Crews are putting the final touches on the event and tickets are still available for spectators.
Southern Hills is expecting nearly 8,000 spectators out at the course each day this week. Vendors have begun setting up tents and restrooms throughout the course to accommodate all of the people coming out.
Bryan Karns, Director of the Senior PGA Championship, has spent nearly a year on the ground in Tulsa organizing the event. He described Southern Hills as a course already at a championship level, but staging areas and ramps are among the things that have to be brought in and built.
Last year’s Senior PGA Championship was canceled because of the pandemic. This year, organizers have talked with the Drillers, FC Tulsa and the BOK Center to find out the best practices to keep crowds safe.
Karns said they keep an eye on the recommendations set forth by the CDC. Since the course provides space to physically distance and is open-air, masks are recommended but not required.
“A lot of our structures and hospitality venues are all open-air,” said Karns. “We pretty much pivoted everything we could to open air.”
There will also be hand sanitizing stations set up throughout the course.
Tickets for the practice and championship rounds are still available. Those can be found by Clicking Here.
