Friends and family of a Tulsa nightclub owner who was shot and killed a few months ago said they're relieved after police captured the man accused of murdering him.

People who knew Jath Burns said his murder was senseless and unfair, but knowing his accused killer is finally behind bars brought a sigh of relief.

"He said 'Vina, we got him,' I went into shock," said Vina Moore. "I felt relief.”

Vina Moore said the past four months without her husband Jath Burns have been devastating, but now, accused killer Marquan Marshall is in custody.

"My Uptown family, we are very happy he has been finally caught," said Moore. "We want to see him pay for what he put us through.”

An affidavit said a fight broke out at the Uptown Lounge near 61st and Peoria in February. It said Jath went outside to try to calm everyone down, but after an argument, it said Marquan Marshall fired several shots and killed Jath. Police arrested Marshall yesterday at a Tulsa home.

“He uplifted the community, and he was making this place better," said Greg Ruffin.

Jath’s friend Greg Ruffin owns another lounge and says Jath was a leader in the community and wanted everyone to have a good time. Everyone called him “New York," and he had 6 kids who loved him.

“His whole thing was, put your fists up, and your guns down," Ruffin said.

Annie Gonzales said Jath saved her when she was in a very dark place, and since then, Jath and Vina became her family.

"They became my family, my parents, the ones I would call for anything," Gonzales said.

Gonzales, Ruffin, and Moore all said the arrest brings them closer to justice, but it doesn’t bring Jath back.

“No matter what happens he won't come back," Vina said.

Marshall was arrested for murder and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon charge.

He's in the Tulsa County jail on a $1 million bond.
