A young Tulsa gymnast with high hopes and immense talent has set her sights on the highest level of competition.
Gymnast Lailah Danzy has turned into a superstar at just the age of 11. The Tulsa native has big goals in the sport and hopes to make her mark every time she competes.
"I feel like I have to be the best that I can be, to show everyone," said Danzy.
Starting gymnastics at just two years old, she has grown leaps and bounds ahead of the competition. This year, she became a regional all-around champion and has been invited to attend the USA national team camp later this month.
"Such an honor to get there and to get my first win, that was pretty awesome," said Danzy. ‘The further I get, the better I’ll become.”
Even with all the bumps and bruises that Danzy has received while competing, it’s worth it to keep her ultimate goal intact: the Olympics.
"I just have to think about being in the Olympics and how much it’s going to hurt, so I have to push through to get where I need to go," said Danzy.
Just like any athlete, practice makes perfect, so Danzy is modeling her career after Olympic gold medalist Simone Biles.
"Every time I watch her, I just think about me, I can be doing that eventually, it will just take some time," said Danzy. “It will be really worth it when I can represent this gym and the U.S.”
