$13.8M Project In Process To Widen 81st Street, Add Sidewalks

A widening project on 81st Street between Memorial and Sheridan is underway this week.

Over the next year, crews are going to widen 81st street to five lanes. That’s two lanes in each direction with a center turn lane.

This $13.8 million project will also bring sidewalks to both sides of the street and bike lanes, as well as a new bridge over Little Haikey Creek.

Other improvements include new concrete pavement at the 81st and Memorial intersection

Traffic will be limited to one lane in each direction in areas that are being worked on, and drivers can still get to businesses while work takes place. 

This project is scheduled to be finished next fall.
