A pattern change is occurring soon bringing more heat and humidity into Oklahoma with limited precipitation chances for the next several days. The ridge of high pressure we usually expect this time of year appears to be developing that will eventually center up across the state by this weekend and should continue for most of next week. The recent rainfall will act to suppress potential temperatures in the short term before we start drying out, but you'll notice the gradually increasing heat and humidity, including the possibility of heat advisories as these heat index values reach the 105 to 109 range by the weekend.

Two separate areas of mid-level ridging will play dominant roles in our weather for the next several days with one located to our west and the other developing across part of the southeastern U.S. In-between, a weak trough will be located across part of Texas providing a few showers or storms, mostly to our south for the next few days. Our common denominator will be increasing heat and humidity this week into the weekend, and probably all next week before the pattern attempts to change by the end of the month. While a few showers or storms will be possible across southeastern or extreme eastern OK for the next few days, most of the area will be drying out and heating up. Most data support the ridge expanding and strengthening into a strong, late July ridge. Once it becomes established it will keep the heat up and the storm chances down. This summer has been unusual regarding the positioning of these typical summertime features, and expectations lead me to question exactly how long this feature will stick around.

Temps are still pleasant and cool this morning with most locations dropping into the mid-60s. Some patchy fog will remain possible across the valleys of Eastern OK, but this will not be a major issue. We’ll expect sunshine with a few clouds today and highs staying in the upper 80s to near 90 along with northeast winds at 10 to 15 mph.

Highs will slowly move into mid-90s Friday into the weekend with weekend lows in the lower to mid-70s for. Heat index values may exceed 105 by this weekend.

A quick word of " Thanks" to my good friend and colleague Stephen N. for covering the morning duties this past week as my family enjoyed some vacation time together. As Stephen pivoted to the mornings, Sawyer W. and Kendall S. handled the noon broadcast in addition to their other duties through the week. Thanks, Stephen, Sawyer and Kendall!

Thanks for reading the Tuesday morning weather discussion and blog.

Have a super great day!
