A stretch of road is shut down right now in Bartlesville after a train derailment this morning. Officers tell us it happened along Southwest Adams Boulevard between Santa Fe and Armstrong Avenues.

Bartlesville Police say it will take hours to reopen the road because cranes will have to be brought in to get the cars back on track.

According to a crew member, the train passes through Bartlesville every day on a route for Watco Train Services. He said the train is carrying sand inside the cars.

Police say that a crash was not responsible for the derailment, but it is currently unclear why some of the cars came off the track.

Crews are waiting for more equipment to arrive to get the cars back on track.

Police have blocked off the road and advise drivers to detour and take Frank Phillips Boulevard to travel east and west because they were able to separate a portion of the train.
