Parents said they don't know what to expect ahead of the school year as COVID cases rise in Oklahoma.

Although cases are far below the peak we saw in January, some parents feel their kids are facing extra challenges as they prepare to return to class since COVID numbers are increasing.

Which is why Jennifier Aycock wants Tulsa Public Schools to require masks for both students and staff.

"To help the spread of COVID,” Aycock said.

Aycock said she's concerned for her kids and wants the school to do everything they can to prevent an outbreak, so they won't have to go back to virtual learning.

"The kids were generally high performing in their grades and their grades tanked and socially it was difficult, so yeah I worry about that happening again,” Aycock said.

The state health department said today, five more virus-related deaths and almost 1,600 new COVID cases were reported across Oklahoma. Health experts said children are less likely to get infected.

Jennifer Salt said her biggest concern is a return to virtual learning, as she believes it's done more harm for her son than good.

“I am worried because I don't want my kid to go back to virtual learning, he didn’t do well mentally, academically, all the way,” Salt said. It's what he needs, consistency in the classroom, and whatever needs to happen for that to happen, we are behind one hundred percent.”
