MidAmerica Industrial Park in Pryor celebrated its 60th anniversary Friday and opened a new retail center.
"It's almost like you wake up and see what you've done, you're working on it every day then all of a sudden - wow," MidAmerica Chief Executive Officer David Stewart said.
The 162-acre retail center called The District is Phase One of MidAmerica's three-part infrastructure plan. The next two phases include apartments, parks, bike trials and 100 homes.
Lieutenant Governor Matt Pinnell said this all came from the imagination of the Pryor community.
"Kudos to them for that vision," Pinnell said. "That's what Oklahomans do, to have these big bold visions, and they've certainly had it in Pryor."
David Miller is the co-owner of Fat Toad Brewing, one of the new businesses at the District.
"It's been a couple of years in the making and so the anticipation is building even within the community," Miller said.
Miller said as a lifelong Pryor resident, he never imagined this type of development would be built in his town. Pinnell said this is only the beginning.
"Really the sky is the limit out here, and something like this bringing more and more people in that's creating that tax space for this community to grow, that has to happen for the state of Oklahoma to be a top 10 state," Pinnell said.
Miller said he can't wait to show off his new creation to the community he holds dear to his heart. Fat Toad is expected to open in September.
"Really, it's about community at the end of the day," Miller said. "That's what really matters the most to us, is how your experience is when you come visit us."
