The Cowboys hit the ground running inside the Sherman E. Smith Training Center Friday morning.
Unlike last season, with running back Chuba Hubbard being the focal point in the backfield, Gundy hopes to spread the carries out this year.
"We don't want anybody carrying the ball 25 times a game,” Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy said. “We need three or four guys to carry it 12 or 15 times a game. It gives us the best chance, one, for keeping them healthy, which allows us to practice at full speed.”
Oklahoma State coach Mike Gundy didn't hold back regarding what he expects this fall with returning quarterback Spencer Sanders: High-powered offense and plenty of it.
Sanders showed us a pair of new favorite targets with Tay Martin and Bixby’s Brennan Presley. Ultimately, taking care of the football will be a major key to his success.
"I think he made a lot of improvements,” Gundy said. “His awareness and understanding (of) our offense and where to distribute the ball is very important, and then, take care of the football. That’s where he got into trouble. If he takes care of the ball in the pocket, he is automatically a better player.”
Gundy said the Cowboys will have no problems finding the endzone this season. One reason could be Bixby product Brennan Presley.
Presley already has one year under his belt, meaning he is expected to have a better understanding of the Cowboy offense.
"He has come a long ways,” Gundy said. “He started to get considerably better at the end of the year based on reps, settled in started to figure it out. You saw him improve particularly in the bowl game. He had a month to prepare. Now, he has been here in the summer, and he is kind of a guy that we are used to.”
