Another two to three days of hot and humid weather is likely before changes arrive this weekend bringing some relief and scattered thunderstorms into the state.
The changes arrive by the end of the week as a weak surface front moves into the state. This will also bring scattered showers and storms and a reduction in temperature, both morning lows and afternoon highs. Low-level moisture will remain present, but heat index values will drop into the 90s and heat advisories will not be required for a few days this weekend into early next week. Unfortunately, the heat and humidity will remain quite high for the next few days with additional heat stress issues likely for a large portion of Eastern OK and the surrounding areas today through Thursday. Afternoon highs will reach 99 to 100 in the metro both today and tomorrow before dropping a degree or two Friday as the system nears the area. Heat advisories will be required again today and Thursday.
The data has continued to support the boundary arriving late Friday night into the weekend, and it continues to offer some better news regarding daytime highs for the period. Once again, it appears our current version of a summer heat wave will be short-lived as another strong upper trough moves across the northern third of the nation and has enough influence to bring a surface front southward. We may see a few showers and storms nearing the area by Thursday night into Friday morning, but the slightly better chances arrive Friday evening into part of the weekend. We still have some questions regarding the exact positioning of the boundary as it slows and stalls, but it should be far enough into the state to keep most of northeastern OK under mostly cloudy and cooler weather Saturday before becoming slowly diffuse Sunday into early next week. Temps should be below normal again with highs in the upper 80s. I've continued to make some minor changes to these periods, mostly by slowly increasing probabilities for a few showers and storms while also lowering the high a few degrees.
Severe threats will be limited and isolated at best as stronger wind fields aloft will remain well north of the state during most of the weekend. There may be a small window Friday evening as the boundary nears southern Kansas and far northeastern OK for a few strong and severe storms.
Tropical Storm Fred is up and running this morning near the Dominican Republic. Official NHC forecast data brings the system near Florida and into the panhandle region of Florida this weekend into early next week.
Thanks for reading the Wednesday morning weather discussion and blog.
Have a super great day!
