On Tuesday all students at Sand Springs Public Schools are heading back to classes in person for the fall semester. Administrators say they are trying to keep things as normal as possible this year while still making sure students are safe.
All students in the district’s ten schools are heading back for their fall semester today for the first time since fall 2019.
Parents have the choice of either in-person or virtual learning for their children and there is no deadline to sign up for either option. If a parent wants to change their choice at any point in the semester they can do so.
Meals will be provided for students both in-person and virtual learning. For those in virtual learning who want a meal, they can pick it up at their school campus every school day.
The district told News On 6 that masks are not required due to the state law banning all mask mandates in schools, but they are encouraging students and staff to wear them “in order to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our classrooms.”
Physical distancing will be implemented when possible in classrooms and other campus settings.
SSPS Communications Coordinator Lissa Chidester said the past school year was more than challenging for students, parents, and staff and they want to get everyone back on track with their normal routines.
“We are always excited to welcome back our students,” Chidester said. “We are so thrilled to see them again, but as always their safety and wellbeing is paramount, so we will be taking proper precautions but we still are really excited to see them.”
The district said if covid cases spike within its schools, they do have plans in place to return to virtual learning if needed for a quarantine period, but hope they are able to stay in school for the duration of the school year.
