A seven-year-old boy is in the hospital after being hit by a driver who then left the scene.
Police said the driver did turn himself in the next day and told police he drove off because he was afraid he'd be in trouble.
The child was taken to the hospital in serious condition.
"Multiple lacerations, multiple broken bones and possibly a head injury," said Officer Andre Baul.
Baul said Devin Ferguson left the scene of the accident, and police shared pictures of the car on social media. Baul said the next day police got a call from a family member of Ferguson that he wanted to turn himself in.
"He said he left the scene, he had told officers he left the scene because he knew he was going to be in trouble," he said.
Baul said Ferguson did tell police he knew he hit the child, but he left the scene anyways.
"It sounds like he panicked after it happened, at this point it sounds like it was an accident, but anytime that you have an accident you are to stay, especially if there's an injury involved," he said.
Baul said it's crucial to use caution when on the roads, especially in residential areas.
"Children are still out, especially after they get out of school, still playing, sun going down at a later time still, just be aware, especially in complexes because you are going to have children that are playing," Baul said.
Ferguson is facing a charge of leaving the scene of an injury accident.
