TU Offense Starting To Flow As Season Opener Approaches

Fall camp is winding down for the Golden Hurricane as Tulsa inches closer to the start of the season.

The offense is starting to flow with quarterback Davis Brin, a redshirt junior who has showed a lot of growth throughout camp.

Tulsa fall camp practices have been heating up with the anticipation of the season starting.

Brin is coming into his own finding his favorite targets. Head Coach Philip Montgomery said he still wants to see improvement out of his junior signal caller.

"The ceiling I think is really high for him. Our defense is throwing a ton at him and it’s good to see him grown in the process," said Montgomery.

Returning to full strength will be the biggest key for Shamari Brooks in the backfield, after coming off a torn ACL, but Montgomery believes the senior running back will be ready when the season begins.

"You know it’s reps, it’s time and then it’s confidence and it’s anytime you are dealing with a major injury that he is coming off of his rehab has been great, his knee is strong," said Montgomery.

Saturday, the Golden Hurricane will scrimmage here at Chapman Stadium. It will give Montgomery a chance to see how his offense and defense has meshed through fall camp as they get set for the season opener against U.C. Davis on September 2.

"We don't get preseason games, we just get to go against each other, so when you tee it up for real it’s the first time you are really put into those under-the-light-type feelings,” Montgomery said. “This is the closest we get, and we have to make the most of it.”
