The Tulsa City Council has voted unanimously to recommend mask-wearing in public places.
There were several intense moments in the city council room, some people were escorted out by police, people screamed, but ultimately the council voted to recommend masks.
The resolution, which also encourages vaccination for Tulsans ages 12 and up, will take effect immediately following Mayor G.T. Bynum's signature.
The council passed the resolution Wednesday night 9-0, after an hours-long meeting that included public comment and drew an anti-mask protest outside. The council had already agreed to table an ordinance that would reinstate a mask mandate until December.
In a committee meeting Wednesday, Councilors disagreed on whether the COVID-19 trends are positive or negative, and whether a mask mandate would help or do practically nothing.
A group of anti-mask protestors gathered outside Tulsa City Hall Wednesday evening. The council chamber was at capacity for the meeting and many more citizens were outside unable to get in. Those that did enter were handed a mask as they went in.
