Starting Monday, all staff members at Tulsa Public Schools will be expected to wear a mask while on campus. The district said it is because of the surge in COVID-19 cases in Tulsa.
Tulsa Public Schools has upped their safety protocols with a rapid testing program within schools and a mask-wearing expectation as more than 700 students and staff have been exposed to or tested positive for COVID-19.
All staff is expected to wear a mask on school property. TPS said students will start wearing masks next week.
The district said in a statement: “It is critical we do everything possible to keep our students and teachers together safely and in-person in our schools and masks are a critical way to sustain the safe in-person learning experience our students deserve.”
It comes after there were 127 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 603 close contact exposures within the district as of last Friday.
Most of those positive cases and exposures have been students.
The district is offering parents the option to enroll their child in a rapid testing program. The district said the program helps to identify asymptomatic COVID-19 cases early and ensures those students who are affected are separated from others so they can limit the spread of the virus.
