The Tulsa City Council has approved an incentive plan to encourage more city employees to get the COVID-19 vaccination.

It's called the "Employee Stipend Program" and it's offering employees up to $500 to get vaccinated.

The city said it will pay $250 to city employees who are vaccinated or get vaccinated by October 15th. Employees will get another $250 if their department reaches a 70% vaccination rate by the start of November.

"As the employer of essential front-line workers, it's our duty to protect City employees and their ability to serve Tulsans throughout this pandemic,” said Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum.

Mayor Bynum also said he's thankful for the council's support in the effort and is eager to see an increased vaccination rate among city employees.

The city said funding for this program comes from the American Rescue Plan Act.
